Cool Can Anyone Enlighten Me?

Hello Fellow Jag Lovers

I'm sure this will be easy for X308 guru's . . . but a bit of a puzzle for a novice. It's only a small issue but all the little things add up. Two pics attached from the front center console cigarette lighter set-up. First shows the removable "ash bucket" and the nice green spy-light window through the side. Second pic shows the molding it sits into and what I'm assuming is the hole where the bulb should fit. The trouble is there is no light and I cannot fathom what on earth what type of bulb might fit in there?

Am I on the right path? and what type of bulb goes in here? Might the bulb be broken in its seating do you think?

Any help would be very appreciated. Cheers . . Stoke Music Dude

Casement that houses the ash bucket and the light-bulb hole that needs light?

There is a 'WEDGE BASE' 12V 1.2W bulb in the lighter base part number C38966

Thank you so much for a speedy reply. I'll get some spares sorted. I'll just have to check whether old bulb broken off in there . . . angle inspection mirror . . . but where did I leave it?? Cheers

If I remember correctly, you’ll have to take the center console out to get to the bulb.

Oh Crumbs . . . I was hopin' nobody said that. I'm assuming (from the name . . . "wedge") that these bulbs are just "Push-To-Fit" and would normally go into the seat through the hole. But as we can see, getting the "Ash-Bucket" out means sliding it past the end of the bulb. It doesn't take too much imagination to envisage breaking the bulb in situ. We'll see when I find my inspection mirror to see if its a 2 minute job or a Royal PITA. Cheers

Taking out the center console isn’t the hard part. The hard part is taking out the center console without breaking anything in the process. It’s your car but, I wouldn’t do it unless something else needs addressed.

You can get at it by just removing the J gate surround and ski slope trim. It’s not a difficult job but you do need to have good dexterity to be able to get at it. It’s a cheap little bulb that’s widely available, there may be an LED alternative. The bulb is actually for the lighter socket and the ashtray shares it’s light.

I recall that it may be easier than that.
I can't verify now, but I think the drill is to lever and pull out the metallic lighter receiver, leaving the green plastic surround in place. The metallic bit is holding some retaining tabs on the perimeter of the plastic illumination bit in place. Once free, the plastic surround can be withdrawn a enough to **** it over and rotate it around the arm that holds the bulb. New bulb, check operation, reverse procedure.
Classic Range Rovers have the same sort of assembly.
