+1. I've done several speaker refoams. One of the few jobs that is easier than it looks and you get to keep the speaker the amp was designed to drive. Go slow, follow the directions, and even at that, it doesn't take long.

I'm inclined to go the additive-route with the 12" in the trunk - unless someone thinks the results would be inferior or only marginally-better than the factory sub.

I would NOT remove the factory sub as leaving a hole in the rear deck will increase cabin noise from the fuel pump and rear suspension. If the 12" sub can transmit bass from the trunk through/around the fuel tank and trunk liner into the cabin, having a 6x9 hole in the rear deck should not be acoustically-relevant to bass transmission.

It looks like this is the best value on Amazon, total cost $130:

Pioneer TS-W304R 12-Inch

BOSS AUDIO PH1500M Amp

Atrend E12St B Box Series 12-Inch Single-Sealed Truck Enclosure

Opinions before I place the order?

I used this kit also. took longer to get the speaker out than to repair it

A little on the lower end of the volume the sub likes to have, but should be fine for what you're going for, I would think. Sounds more like you want more fill and a little oomph, and that would be fine.

Yeah, I searched for the smallest enclosure that would fit the sub's 5 5/16" mounting depth.

It seems that loosing trunk space is the biggest negative of this approach.

That amp will put out maybe 1/3 of its actual rated power. Boss tends to overrate their amps by a huge margin. Should be fine for that sub though.

The box volume is a bit below what the recommended volume is for the sub, I'd suggest getting a small pack of poly fill and filling the box with it, it'll improve sound a bit.

Okay, but with polyfill and even with the overrated sub pushing 300w (despite claimed 1500w) and the mini enclosure, it should provide much more bass response than the 6x9 ever did, right?

Claimed max outputs on amps and speakers are rather meaningless. They're bigger numbers, which draw attention, but are certainly not the numbers to really rely on. That said, it should certainly give more than the factory 6x9 does.

That's good, 'cuz I placed the order, total cost $140.

I've read other threads to repair the 6x9 and many people break proprietary x308 parts in the process (seat belt cover plastic, rear deck, etc.) that puts the 6x9 repair cost well over 140 (and I'm not confident to be able to avoid breaking the plastic bits any better than other people)

My prior post said 300w based on reviews of that amp from people that tested its output to be about 300w rms, which perfectly matches the Pioneer 12" sub rms, although I'm not sure if the reviewer took into account running at 4 ohms, if not then the real wattage will be only 150w, which is not amazing but better than the 40w @ 4 ohms (claimed 50w) of the factory Alpine amp pushing the 6x9.
