I have a 2003 XJ8 VDP that I have had since new. Recently I have had problems filling my tank....it would only allow 1-2 gallons and then would not allow anymore to be pumped in. I took it into my dealership (where I have purchased my last 2 jags from and was happy until this past week) who told me that they looked at it and they said I needed a new cannister valve replaced.....$500 bucks later it still doesn't resolve the problem. Of course I am pretty pissed off at this point. They now want to charge me $4000 to replace the entire tank.
I have done some internet research and found that this problem is not common BUT they have had enough of these issues to realize there is a fault somewhere.
Any info would be appreiciated......please hurry before I get too frustrated with JAG and go to the dark side and buy a BMW!!!!

bob to the rescue! After 7 years, you have to expect some more severe maintenance will be required, however, the new gas tank... yah, I'd call BS on that one too. I'd also be asking for some of my money back on the CCV replacement at the dealer, though it may have been corroded and blocked also to some degree affecting operation, my 2003 also suffered from a small evap leak that resulted in a new vent and CCV. If not now, you may have been tackling it soon.

I guess from what I read here I've been lucky. I've had no problem (knock on wood) with my xj6. I do have to keep my little drain in the filler cap area cleaned out about once a month though. When I first got it I noticed some white corrosion appearing substance inside the filler tube at the top. I cleaned it out and so far there seems to be no remaining problems. The only problems I have now are the tilt and telescoping cables and the "AIRBAG" light is on.

air bag light... yah, i've had an intermittent one of those. We're talking driver's side, right? Not the passenger side?
Jag service said it was a harness code, but inspection revealed all pins have the proper continuity, so I've been cleaning the pins inside (some gold, some look like tin) and a dab of dielectric grease on each one...just to make sure the full signal gets across. So far, lights been off. Mine came on only when it was very hot outside (and car was parked outside) so it has to be temperature related (shrink swell).

Good call on the shrink -swell. I had a Prelude that would only crank and not start if it sat out in the sun. Park it in the garage and it started everytime. There was a crack in the circuit board on the master relays. It would get hot, open up the crack and the fuel injectors would not work.
