Hi, 1992 XJ8 would be an unusual beastie. 1992 XJ40 with 6 cyl engine, or 1992 XJ81 = XJ40 but with 12cyl engine. The XJ8 didn't appear until the end of 1997 as I recall.
Anyhow, a weak or failing battery can cause your alarms to randomly fire.
Also loose doors, bonnet/hood or boot/trunk.
I seem to remember from your previous posts last year, that you had starting problems and battery issues, I also seem to remember that you said that the battery looked newish.
But did you have it checked and then replaced.
Just a little advice if you don't mind, when you make a new post about a technical issue, please include the year and model at the start in the title of your post.
This will give you faster, more accurate replies from the guys who know about your vehicle and it also makes using the Google type search facility of the Forum more specific.
Cheers,

The starting problem turned out to be a crank or cam senson. Problem is I bought the car with 75,000 klms (45,000 miles) at a premium as it was in such good shape. Since I purchased it I have spent about $3500 on repairs (including new tires) and incendental costs (being stuck out of town and car rentals). Now the alarm is going off there is a whirring noise from the front end (wheel bearings possibly) and a ticking at idle that sounds like a lifter but I have been told it is something to do with the cam timing system.
It is such a shame as the car is a wonderful ride and if I knew the next thing I fixed would be the last for a while I would be happy. It is turning into a bit of a money pit.
I will get the battery checked.
