In Car Phone

In Car Phone
I have a 2002 XJ8 VDP that i purchased used 3 months ago. It came with the in car phone. It has the antenna on the back windshield and the RJ45 port in the console. The phone itself was missing when purchased. What model phone goes with the system? Not the Star Tac phone, must be a motorola model. Reason I want the phone is to pair my blackberry via bluetooth to the system to get hands free operation. Most posters say that the phone is analog, non-bluetooth and don't waste your time. I think that may be the case but when I go to Jaguars site and visit their bluetooth connectivity page, I get a different opinion. The site has me enter my model and VIN number. I then get to a page that states my car is equipped with bluetooth pairing and gives me instructions on how to pair my blackberry to the system. Is this true? Bluetooth has been out since 1994 and thus some hope. Can anyone confirm this option in a 2002 VDP? Even if I get stuck doing one of the aftermarket bluetooth kits, it would be nice to have the original phone. Legally any cell phone is required to be able to dial emergency services regardless of a contract or analog/digital. In a worst case scenario I could dial 911 from the car assuming I left my blackberry at home. If anyone has the original in car phone manual from 2002, it would be nice to see a copy to check if the bluetooth option is available.

the S type/X Type i believe had bluetooth...none of the X308 XJ's had a blue tooth option...what most of us have done is use a motorola t605 or equivalent from parot or something like that...the in car phone is pretty sweet though if you find one...it integrates nicely to all the radio and steering buttons...also you can activate the jaguar phone with page plus cellular...but keep in mind you need a jaguar motorola phone as there is special firm ware in that phone to work with the setup in the jags...but it might just be easier to install and purchase a t605 or equivalent...let me know any questions as i've been backwards and forwards on this one a few times...

this is what you want...but obviously this one is very expensive...it gives you an idea what you are looking for...it has the jag logo on it as well...also the non us versions of the phone won't work so keep that in mind...if you do get rid of the factory phone setup get a non phone center cubby as it is nice having that extra space

Attached is the phone manual for the Timeport your car had.
Hope that helps!

I don't know if they are junk if someone is selling them on ebay for $225.00. I think it would be a good second line. If it's CDMA it can be activated for Verizon.

All this assumes they haven't modified or delayed it since then, of course.
Cheers,

I was thinking the same thing. Hope it uses the same custom firmware. Found it cheaper by more searching.

Does anyone have a spare phone cradle for an xj8 vdp 2002. I have the console insert, phone hardware in the car and under the console, glass mounted antenna and the motorola timeport p8767 phone with custom jag firmware. Someone damaged the phone connection in the cradle that I purchased with the car and now I need a replacement for the ancient in car phone system. The wiring from the brain under the console appears to be unharmed.
