Default Carnival Kid died from Covid

Hello,
This is Carnival Kid's wife, sad to tell you he died from Covid February 4th, this year. Many of you are familiar with him and the Jag he owned, I'm trying to come up with the value of his Jag, or anyone here interested in buying it, I don't drive it and don't want to pay the insurance and registration. Any comment are welcome.

I am sorry to hear this. I have the same color Jag, Carnival Red, so his username always stuck with me. He was always knowledgable and helpful. He will be missed. I'm not in the market for another Jag. I'll be watchin to see what prices people recommend. Best wishes to you. Many condolences and prayers.

First, condolences on your husband's passing. I gleaned so much about these cars from his posts.

I am no expert on car values. Here is a link to all the 2001 VDPs (none red) listed nationally on a site called cargurus.com. All appear to be at dealers, and I'd throw out the one asking something like $38,000 for a very low mileage car. It's horribly out of line with the market, even as inflated as the market might be. the dealer's in search of a sucker. I personally think the prices asked for the two remaining cars are a bit on the low side, but who knows.

As I said, I am not an expert in used car valuations, and I note your husband's car had a variety of upgrades. I paid a Virginia dealer $11k plus the tax, etc., for a 2003 VDP (not red) with very low mileage about 20 months ago. If I were to sell it privately today I'd take a stab at getting $14-16k for it before scaling back my expectations.

Again, my condolences.

Good day Ma'am and my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your husband. Another member had informed us regarding this and I made an effort to spread the word of his passing.
He was a very respected and liked member.

For the value of the XJ8, your looking at $6-9000 private sale, possibly $10-11000 being a sharp colored red. For areas like Chicago or LA, you could probably get $12-15000. But as soon as you get out of the over-hyped pricey city areas, you can more count on that $6-9000+. A dealer will probably only offer $2500-4000, so avoid them.

If you have any independent Jaguar techs in the area where you can post it for sale, I'm sure they'd welcome it. I actually have a friend of mine looking for one, but I'm not sure if he'd want to go out to Cali from FL or not. You can also list the car for sale in The Marketplace above, in the top task bar, once you determine what you feel you can get. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/market/

Please, if we can be of any more assistance, let us know. I'm sure a moderator can also assist for the for sale posting, if need be.

Default Suggestion for Selling the Jag

I used Left Coast Classics in Sonoma, Calif. many years ago when I needed to sell an MG. Don Dabney did a fine job with everything and charged a reasonable commission. Id get in touch and see if you like his services.

Just a belated reply to offer my condolences as well, and to express my gratitude for your husband's kind and generous contributions to this forum. He will be greatly missed.

I wish I lived closer to you because I would be greatly tempted to make you an offer for his beautiful Jaguar.

Cheers,

Don
