Catalytic convertor for XJ8 (2002 Model, X308, 3.2 Sport, Petrol)
Hi Everyone,
Bought a beautiful XJ8 3.2 sport 2002 model last year in July/2014, had done 68,000 miles and was meticulously cared for by its previous owner. Car is great, but the engine light came on after 4 months of use, reason being one of the Catalytic convertors/front, passengers side. Since a genuine Jaguar one costs in excess the of GBP 1200 fitted, I got a non-Jaguar one fitted,. however the engine light came on again. I recently took it to Lookers Jaguar, PArk Royal, London (Authorised Jaguar/Landrover), they charged GBP 138 for diagnostics and identified the same issue. ie. catalytic convertor, front, passengers side. In the last year, the care stopped twice, once on the motorway/precarious, and once on a dual carriageway, both times going into engine-fail safe mode. The engione light in general has come on 3-4 times.
My question:
1. Should I go in for a genuine Jaguar Cat Convertor and would this resolve the issue?
2. Is it safe to drive the car on short/long journeys with the engine light on?
3. Any other advice on how to resolve the problem economically?
4. I love the car, it drives beautifully, but since it has stopped twice, and once on a precarious part of the motorway, I have lost confidence and feel like getting rid of it. Any thoughts?
Many thanks for your assistance and advice in advance.
