CD Auto changer

Hi
I am considering purchasing a CD boot changer to fit in my XJ8. I have read reviews which state it is a simple plug and play installation as the head unit is already compatible. I understand it is fitted on the under side of the rear parcel shelf on the left hand side. I have had a look behind the boot carpet for a spare cable that may be the one I need but cant see anything. Am I looking in the right place or does an additional cable need to be run from the radio head unit to the boot?
thanks
Jeff

it may vary from year to year but my 2002 XJR has the cd changer mounted in the left side of the boot not not mounted under the parcel shelf but mounted in the left side of the boot itself. perhaps if you pull back some of the carpeting there you will be able to see the wiring you are looking for

Hi
many thanks for the responses so far!
I think I may have it wrong and it is actually fitted in the rear left hand wing. The model is a 1998 XJ8 3.2.
Carpeting seems quite tight there, should it just pull back or are there fixings that need to be removed first? should the cable be ready for plug and play behind the carpet?
thanks

@jeff
The car should be prewired for it, but the cable can sometimes be tucked out of the way somewhere so you may need to have a hunt for it in the left hand side of the trunk. Is should be a big fat multi cored wire. The carpet panel thing on the left hand side of the trunk just pulls out. I usually remove the plastic cover from the inside of the rear light first though as this makes it easier to get the cover out. Its quite flexible so you won't break it. Jaguar used alpine CD changers but with a special handshaking procedure which means you can ONLY use a jaguar alpine CD changer. Although you can get a normal Alpine CD changer and it will connect into the harness in the trunk it won't play. I see used CDchangers come up on ebay from time to time so that may be a good source for you, for example... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CD-CH...ht_2324wt_1118

I'm eventually going to want to do the same thing to the XJ8 I just got. Where did you order the parts from?

Glad to hear you are making progress. Just out of interest, could you not have cut a hole in your existing trunk carpet and reused it?
Also I assume the rack that the Cd changer bolts into is alway there? Our did you buy that as part of your order?
Every XJ I've seen had the Cd changer in already so this thread will be good info if someone else wants to do the same thing

CD arrived and fitted within 30 minutes start to finish! all works perfectly.
The trunk carpet is a different moulding to accommodate the cd changer so cutting the existing carpet wont work.
The cradle that carries the cd is included with the vast majority I have seen for sale on internet/ebay it is not fitted into the car awaiting a cd to be installed into it,however you must have it and the 3 fixing bolts to secure it to the body of the car.

@jeff
Thanks for the feedback about the carpet.... as I said, I'd never seen an XJ without a CD changer so I wasn't sure if the carpet was the same without a cutout....
Anyway, now that you have all this done and are enjoying your CD Changer...... you should really read this thread for your next mission in XJ audio fun :-)
