Our cup holders are terrible to hold cell phones, as they slide all over the place. What mount have you purchased that looks good and its not too intrusive?
Do you not fear that it can break one of the vent slats?
Negative, it's firm yet pliable ABS rubber(the vent gripper) so it gives when stressed but the holder stays stable due to the locking/twist nut connector on the back of the cradle.
Been through a few via trial & error on Amazon, this one is a keeper for me.
Why would I want to hold my cellphone? I put it in my centre console, under the armrest. I don't use it while driving.
some of us play music through our phones, or use a tape adaptor for a pseudo bluetooth system, also when driving in unknown areas they become our navigation systems, or in heavy traffic we use waze for faster routes...

I have an aftermarket head unit w/ bluetooth hands free & aux streaming capabilities. Having the phone mounted on the vent nearest the clock is very cohesive to use.

It's mounted on the wooden trim just to the left of the center vents. It gives me a couple things. It's close, not too far to drop my eyes from the road IF I have to, my charger will reach it, and it's simple. I have the metal plate for it inside the skin case on my phone, not physically attached to the phone, but still holds it just fine from within. Plus, being where it is, is JUST over the left corner of the vent, so if I'm using the phone hard and it starts to get warm, I can vent cool air and chill it down.

Kuda USA sidecar mount. They make them with all the common interior colors; there's a metal tab that fits under the wood trim, and a non-destructive tab that catches the bottom passenger edge of the console. Blank face, so, you can mount a standard cell mount to the face and put the phone in a cradle. Out of the way, yet still accessible.

Thats very clean... Do you have any pictures with the phone cradle installed? Based on from the pictures it seems like the phone would sit a bit low and horizontal. Do you like the position?

Yeah, but....you don't mount things flat on the base. You get a little creative...and mount things on swivel mounts:

How it's mounted. That is a standard AMPS mount backplate. You just have to be a bit creative and think outside the box; what Kuda puts on their site is only a suggested way of mounting...doing a little investigation and web searching will lead to many creative ways of doing what you need to do without having to drill into your $2000. console, stick tape on your veneer, or have things rattling around the cockpit.
And besides...when it's time to sell the car (which may or may not be applicable), all you have to do is remove the Kuda mount, the car is back to absolute stock, there are no holes drilled in the original finishings, and you would never know that it was in place.
