I'm surprised nobody else noticed how perfectly most modern smartphones fit horizontally laying flat in the open ashtray, with the rearward side dropping down a centimeter into the ashtray and the front side propped up by the rounded ashtray corners - perfect balance to stay put.

My phone has popped out under very hard emergency-braking maybe 2-3 times and that really is unpleasant because once it leaves the ashtray it launches itself to the front of the passenger footwell which is way too far for a driver to retrieve, lol...

And open cupholders block sight of it completely...

My favorite cellphone holder fits in vents, grooves and CD players. It's the only on le I use and buy for others as gifts ( they love them too!)

Doesn't work for me, since I have my car charger plugged into it. Plus, it's way too far to move my eyes to see the phone for things, than having it mounted on the dash.

Thank you King Charles I was able to order mine late last night and it was here waiting for me by the time I got home from work. (amazon prime)

fits nice and snug and right in the position I needed it. I went with the Tao Tronics

I actually liked the Roybens vent mount as well, but it had too much grey for my cashmere interior lol call me pedantic.

Amazon.com: Roybens 2 in 1 Universal Air Vent and Windshield Cell Phone Car Mount Holder Cradle Fits Apple iPhone 5 5S 6 Plus 6S 5C, Android Smartphones, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Note, LG, HTC, GPS, iPod (Black): Cell Phones & Accessories

It's basically the same as the Tao except it has a button you can use to release the phone or open so only one hand's needed whilest driving.
