Default Changed coil/plug, still Restricted Performance?

Hello all, newbie here. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction because I'm scratching my head here. I have an 2001 XJR. One day while at the light, the restricted performance code popped up and started running sluggish. Then the check engine light came on. I was in the process of getting the car inspected. I went ahead and let them do the inspection although it didn't pass. They pulled the code and a P0351 code: Ignition Coil A Primary/Secondary Curcuit Malfunction. I had a code reader at home so I plugged it up and got a P0301: #1 cylinder misfire and ignition coil. I replaced the coil as well as the plug, put the electrical grease on the plug, etc. and buttoned everything back up. Cranked the car up and it sound and sound fantastic. Took it for a drive, 30 mile drive. Initially, it ran fantastic. In the 13th mile of the drive, the Restricted Performance Light popped on. It still ran very well and only until you came to a complete stop, could you tell it's not running right. At the end of the 30 mile drive, the check engine light popped back on. Upon returning to the house, I hooked the code reader back to it and the same damn code popped back up! I'm lost. From what I have read, normally it's the coil or the plug if that's the only code that pops up? Am I missing something? Is there an item I'm overlooking? What do I check in regards to that inital code that the guys at the car inspection place brought, the Ignition Coil A Primary/Secondary Curcuit Malfunction. I'm frustrated and any help and or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Probably a stupid question, but you sure you replaced the correct coil and plug?

I'd suggest swapping 1 & 2 coils, clearing the codes and running again till codes return. if it stays at 1 then the issue is deeper, if it moves to 2 you know that it's the coil.

That could be a posibility. If I'm correct, cylinder on is the driver side front piston. That was the plug and coil I replaced. I'll swap coils and see what happens.

Do the new coils include a new rubber boot? It probably did but just in case it didn't . One of mine had a small hole in the rubber boot that was causing the spark to arch to the head. Just a thought I'm no expert.

Assuming Houston is part of the British Commonwealth you are correct on your 'driver's side'. Otherwise it is the front right (from the driver's seat). But then the Jaguar documentation calls them A1 through 4 on the right side and B1 through 4 on the left side.

Ok, now I'm confused again. So, let me as this way then. Is Coil on on the side where the brake booster is or is it on the side where the air filter is, both locating themselves at the front of the car. Is there a diagram to show the order of the V8?

Look at testpoint's post here:

Methinks you changed the wrong one- Don't feel bad, you will note from that thread that I had a brain fart on the correct order too!

As you are sitting in car, facing forward, cylinder #1 (Bank 1- Cylinder 1) is front, right side of engine. Sounds like you replaced #2 (Bank 2 - Cylinder 1) instead.

Yes, he did - I just had a P0352 error on my '99 Sovereign and it the diagnostics referred to it as Ignition Coil B, JTIS referred to it as Cylinder #2. I swapped out what would be Bank 1, Cylinder 2 in the diagram and now all is well after over 100 miles of test driving. A P0351 would definitely be Bank 1, Cylinder 1.
