Default Changing Antifreeze

Just changed the antifreeze on my '02 XJ8. Found the drain plug OK, but the refilling it took only about 5 quarts of straight antifreeze. I sucked some out with a squeeze bulb-type tool and added water (after running the engine and cooling it off) to get about a 50-50 mix with my tester.

I must have missed something about draining all the coolant out. The car care owner's manual shows something like 10+ quarts capacity.

If I missed draining something, can someone tell me what it is? Thanks......Doug

Probably some left in the hearter core and low spots through out the system. Did you let it drain naturally or did you push the rest out with water pressure?

Default RE: Changing Antifreeze

I just let it drain naturally. The antifreeze looked so clean and fresh when I drained it, that I did not flush the system. I used long-life antifreeze as called for by the car care manual. Next time I will flush the system. Thanks for the reply....Doug
