Changing Rod and Main Bearings with engine in car?
Can it be done?
On american V8's I've been able to get at rod and main bearings by just dropping the oil pan. Trans and everything stays in.
Can the rods and mains be done on these 4.0 XJ8's with the engine and trans in the car?
Thanks, Ken

No real problems...
I have an oil leak that I believe is the rear main. If I go through the trouble to get at it, I figured I'd also do the bearings (using the cotter pin trick) if I could get at them.
The oil leak is not bad. The problem is my driveway only has a couple spots on it and I'd like to keep it that way.
Also have a slight rough idle that goes away when rpm increases. I believe the VVT is not getting enough oil pressure due to clearances on my 135,000 mile engine. This issue might be solved once I change the oil to a thicker viscosity though.
