Default Changing Upper/lower ball joints

Watched a clip on U Tube where they changed a press in lower ball joint on a Chevy truck with a tool that resembled a large G clamp, was wondering if this was possible on the X308 ? Looked on E Bay and they are called a ball joint removal / installation tool. they vary wildly in price from about £40 to £400+. Assuming the bushes don't need changing being able to change the ball joints on the car would save a lot of time.

Yes - I changed my upper and lower ball joints on the car using a monster C clamp. I paid about $65 for the C clamp and adapters. There are 4 challenges:

-Finding the right sleaves to fit over the ball joints
-Finding a combination of sleaves, washers, etc. that still fit inside the mouth of the C clamp
-Cutting the outer flange off of the upper ball joint to provide a lip on the control arm for the sleave to hold against
-Cutting a notch in one of the sleaves to clear the control arm and allow the sleave to sit square against the control arm

The Ball joints are pressed in really tight. I needed my impact gun to tighten the C clamp enough to initially unseat the ball joints. They sound like a rifle shot when they give. I did not use any heat on the control arms

PM me if you would like more info

Ditto rocklandjag - I managed both upper and lower ball joints with one of the Ebay kits - albeit with the wishbones off the car.
The hardest part is removal - the old ball joint collar needs to be cut out into a hex shape to allow room for your press adaptor / socket to sit on the arm so the joint can be pushed through.
You will need a cut off tool / hack saw and a chisel for this part.
A selection of large sockets is useful as the adaptors that come with the kit may not fit that well.

If off the car the G-clamp needs to be secured in a large vice.
Aligning the various adaptors can be a little tricky, especially when installing as the new joints need to go in straight, although if slightly off line the position of the adaptor can be adjusted to bring the joint back into line.
I used a 1/2" breaker bar with a 3 foot extension to get the leverage required - I felt the force needed was at the tools limit but it did the job (a shop press would be much better of course).
All good fun.......
