Check Engine Light
Hello Again GuysTonight I went to the storeparked itcame back and started it up againand the Restricted Performance Light switched on momentarilythen leftand now only the CEL light is on. Phew...lol. However, as before, I'm wondering if it's only a fuse somewhere.... The car was kept very mint and has been a one owner carwell taken car of and serviced at regular intervals. I would hope and doubt it is anything major and I do intend on taking my XJ8 for a tune-up within the weekbut I would just like to use you guys as a soundboard and hopefully quell my fears....

RE: Check Engine Light
I had the Check Engine light with Restricted Performance the other day. In a mile or 2 the Restricted Performance went off and left the Check Engine light. I checked the codes when I got home and found only P1111. Since then, I have been driving the car with the code reader plugged in and have an occasional P0171 or P0174. Reading the JTIS, this indicates too lean on the Bank 1 for one CODE and Bank 2 for the other CODE and will turn on the Check Engine Light and Restricted Perfirmance if both events happen Simultaneously. Noy I am looking for a leak in the intake air someplace.

RE: Check Engine Light
Could you guys tell me where to buy this code reader? I think I may want to get onebecause I was at my local Mechanic the other day (A very talented one, I might addmuch experience) The one that changed a fuse for me in my 12-Volt Outlet-He said he didn't personally have the Advanced Code Reader that many European Model Cars use-He was hesitant on working on it because of not having oneand suggested I go to the dealer. I would imagine howeverthat if I get my hands on what he's talking about-he would be much more inclined on servicing it for me. My Local Jaguar Dealer is nearly three hours away, after all...

RE: Check Engine Light
theres alot more involved than just reading codes by a local mechanic and actually fixing the problem. When you work on the same type cars all the time you know the areas that are most prone to cause certain codes and problems.
For instance p0171, p0174 lean engine codes, all have very different causes on 3 of the 4 Jaguar models and thats not talking about the supercharged versions, and or including different models year variations. People ask me all the time if I can fix there so and so Mercedes, Bmw, Honda etc.. and the answer is "eventually" The best thing I evr can recommend to anyone is to take your car to someone that works on that car all the time.
Its hard enough to keep up with everything on 4 models, much less every car that comes through the door. more accurate, faster, repairs with minimal part breakage if any since theyre not "learning" on your car
