Checking Coolant Level

Checking Coolant Level
I am a new owner of a 98 XJ8-L, that has 92,000 miles on it. Car runs great, and I have made a few posts on here prior. Thanks to all of you for your replies. My next question....The last few days it has been hotter, in fact, I have had to run the A/C. Since I have done this, today my car said "Low Coolant Level". I popped the hood, as I would on any of my other American cars, and notice that things are different on the Jag. What is the proper way to check the coolant level, and what type of coolant should I use. Does the warning come on pretty early, or should it be pretty low. Can I just top off with water or what? Thanks for all your help. By the way, the car is not overheating at all.

RE: Checking Coolant Level
the warning comes on pretty early -- when the radiator is still full, but the reservoir is low. The reservoir is located in the center, rear area when the hood is open (right in front of the wipers) - I"m not sure why it's not in the front. use the yellow antifreeze (extended life) - you'll have to mix it with water - I don't think the yellow stuff comes pre-50/50. Top it off a bit and you'll be good to go. Enjoy the ride!
