Codes P1260, P0790 Fixed
Hi All
I am the proud owner of a 2002 3.2 XJ8 X308 saloon and this fine Sunday morning I decided to fit led bulbs into the heater display, the old bulbs having expired and for once I thought I would be safe and disconnect the battery. so one hour later job done!! reconnected the battery and started the car except that I only got to the cranking bit, this car starts in a heartbeat or not at all.
Out comes the IDS code reader/diagnostic and i get P1260, P0790 and U2500
Code P1260 Theft detected, it says missing signal from key module or ECU or security module, each is very expensive, I was certain I had not shorted anything or damaged any module and normally if the key is not accepted then it would not crank, so after a few hours of head scratching and searching the forums (surprising how few posts end SOLVED). i was no nearer.
Having read Mr CJ's posts all those thoughts and remedies passed through my head post 49 really threw me, this confirmed that a security fault would prevent cranking.
But as I have the correct software I thought it worth trying to reset immobilization and lo and behold it worked car is back to normal I still have code U2500 though.
So a simple battery removal can upset these fine old cars.
