I perhaps wasn't clear on the threaded rod. It needs to be the same thread as the original spring pan bolts (which I think are M8). So as each is removed, the threaded rod is screwed in to the hole that the bolt has vacated.

Here's a few more pictures I have but not sure it adds much to the explanation.
