Considering a Classic Jag (XJ/XJR) as a Toy
I am toying with the idea of picking up an XJR or XJ VDP supercharged as a fun car. most XJR's seem to be "well used" and the VDP supercharged are extremely rare. I do see a few 2000-20003 VDP with under 100k miles that seem to be in excellent shape inside/out with history records ( timing chain tensioners/ waterpumps replaced, and other common issues).
I have had a 07 XK, 09 XKR, currently have a F-Pace 35T (supercharged). I am inclined to find a supercharged variant but given its a toy/weekend cruiser, the low miles XJ VDP cannot be overlooked. Anyone have any suggestions on what to look for specifically when shopping for one?
Also, if anyone has photos of the XJ VDP with the Asteriod wheels, I would love to see how they look on the extended wheelbase. I absolutely love those wheels on the XJR

I opted for a supercharged car myself, strictly because the transmission is considerably more durable and more easily serviced than in the na cars. That and that supercharged cars really aren't significantly more expensive than the more or less equivalent na car, it seemed like a clear choice for me.
I've been using my 01 XJR as my daily for the last year, put 25,000 miles on it in that time and its been very reliable for me.
Agreed on the Asteroid wheels. In my opinion there are no better looking wheels on the x308.

I came across a 2002 XJ VDP. 130 Kilometers, 1 family owned, garage kept no winters or rust, waterpump done last year, fuel pump few years ago, regularly oil changes, plugs etc. No other major repair undertaken. Only issue is the sagging headliner. Considering a drive to go look at it as it appears to be in great shape. I want an XJR' but all local ones are either rusting or well driven.

Any thoughts or tips on inspection?
