conversion 1998 XJ8 to GM LS & 4L60E
I am converting my 98 xj8 to a gm ls motor with a 4l60e trans. I am doing this becaues my a drum in the bw trans was bad and I guess I needed another project. I have FOR SALE my 4 liter engine and trans ( 198K ) if anyone is interested any reasonable offer

"You do know you can fix the drum for under $1,000?"
And then he'll still have a fairly weak and difficult to service transmission. The LS makes more power, weighs less, is more reliable, has a lower CG, is much easier to find parts for, and is much easier to work on than the AJ. And the 4L80 is in every way superior to the non-R transmission. If you have an XJR, you have a valid case for staying with the Jaguar drivetrain. If your XJ8 blows up, put in an LS as quickly as possible, it's flat out better, and not particularly expensive if you source your parts correctly. It's not hard at all to do the whole swap for less than $2000, and you end up with a lighter and more powerful car that's far easier and cheaper to maintain down the road.

a problem lately is some of these hi-end cars ,are being sold for less than a transmission overhaul!
i came across a 2000 BMW 750L, V12, it had a bad trans. car sold for $4500. dollars.
my plan was to install a GM 4L80E, with an aftermarket TCM(transmission control module), i,m saying it would be much cheaper and more dependable than the BMW unit!

BMWs of the same vintage, with a V8, use the same ZF unit the Jags do. I don't understand the rush to get rid of the ZF. They last 100,000 miles on average, so repair it once and put it back in! Relatively cheap, and no messing around with TCMs, adapters, and all the other hassles of a swap.
Every single automatic transmission I have owned has failed (at least once) so I don't see the ZF as particularly bad.
