Converting 2000 Telephone to new

Question here, I have a 2000 XJ8 VDP and would like to use the in-car phone. Problem....it's 2000 era (cradle mounted in arm rest box and older cord). Has there been anyone who has converted theirs to new technology (adapter plug)? Is there an adapter from Jaguar or another maker? I have an HTC EVO and would like to use it hands free in the car.
Thanks in advance!

You can adapt a bluetooth adapter (like the Motorola T605) to the Jag wiring, so, for instance, the phone audio comes through the car speakers, the Stereo will automatically mute for incoming/outgoing calls, etc. The only thing you can't do is use the stereo head unit's controls for the phone or adapter - you can do it all from the phone or from the small switch/control module that comes with the bluetooth adapter.
There are several good treatises on this subject here in the forum and a GREAT write up by Jim Roal here: http://j.roal.home.mchsi.com/X308Bluetooth.pdf

this one..... http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16921
It's good because its quite short, so it can stay in the OBD port all the time and not protrude down into the footwell where it could be at risk from getting kicked or knocked as you get in and out of the car

Sorry about hijacking a phone thread but . . .
Great idea! Several found on an web search but little info on the software. The dongel appears to be a generic OBD to bluetooth converter that you can buy from the far east for $25. The capabilities are all software. How was the software and software support, if required? Does the software have data logging, can it display graphs, gauges? Does it have any manufacturer specific OBD codes or only the 'standards' codes?
Autoengineuity sells the same thing but with full software capability for a mere 10 times the cost of this one.

The software I use is called Torque, which is a free android app. Its fantastic, and constantly being updated by the author.
data logging --> yes
can it display graphs --> yes
gauges --> yes as in things with needles. Also has "digital" gauges which are just large numbers That you can see easily.
Does it have any manufacturer specific OBD codes or only the 'standards' codes --> It does read and reset the P1xxx codes for sure.
