Default Coolant sensor problem.

Recently I've been getting the low engine coolant light. I took off the reservoir cover and it was low so I refilled it. About an hour later or so the light came back on, I checked the reservoir cover again and it had gone down some.

The next day I removed the cover with the engine completely cold and the reservoir was empty. I'm concerned that I may have a coolant leak, but I don't know where. There were no puddles under the car and the engine bay doesn't smell sweet when it's running either. I'm still unfamiliar with these vehicles though so any help is appreciated.

There are a couple 'most likely' places for a leak but the sure way to find the problem is to 'rent' a set of coolant system test gear from a local auto parts store.

Pump it up cold and the leaking spot will be instantly visible.

I pressure tested the system and found out that one of my upper hoses has a nasty leak. It only shows up when the system is under pressure.

Default Is the same problem that is in the Coolant leak thread??

Hi
The photo in this thread is the same photo that is in the Coolant Leak thread I found posted Today at 12:13 pm.
I put the diagram and parts information with the Coolant Leak thread this morning. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...at-part-53997/

The Coolant sensor problem could be that the coolant sensor float is stuck at the bottom of the coolant expansion tank (reservior tank). I had the same problem after I had the cooling system flushed and refilled with new coolant. The check engine light came on, also the low coolant warning message.

When I checked the coolant level and it was a little low. I filled the coolant reservior tank to the top. But still was getting low coolant message. I called our mechanic and he said either the coolant sensor is stuck or it went bad.

I opened the cap of the reservior tank and stirred the coolant with an oversized round long handled plastic spoon. Apparently it must of moved the float of the sensor enough to unstick it, because the low coolant message went away and the check engine light is longer on.

Try it and see if it works for you also.

That seems to be the same issue I was having with the float. If I stirred the coolant around a little the light turned off. I was able to order the new hose I needed also thanks to the awesome guys at Nalley Jaguar.
