Default Coolant temperature sensor wet?

Hi all,
2001 VDP not supercharged

I got a low coolant light today. Sure enough it's a little low. As I've had difficulty in the past with the sensor being loose/out of position, I pulled it out of there to look at it and it was a little wet. Should it be? It's been a while since I've had any problem with it and I just can't dredge up that kind of fine detail in my age addled brain.

Thanks ahead of time.

Andy

The sensor is in a sealed well, so you may have a leak. It could be in the well or in the seam of the tank and you got the sensor wet while removing it. Either way it's probably time to replace the tank.

The problem is the TEMP SENSOR?

You are describing the LEVEL sensor.

The TEMP sensor is in the coolant crossover pipe on the front of the cylinder heads.

That makes sense. I'll look at it but that's probably not to herd to change out. Thanks!!

Doh! You are absolutely right! Sorry about that. Yes, the level sensor. Do you agree it's likely a cracked tank that should be replaced?

I got around to replacing the tank today but over tightened the forward mounting bolt and boke it off. I was trying to remove the broken end out of it's plastic home and it appears to have a splined end in the plastic. I got a hold of it with vice grips an I can wiggle it but it won't pull out of there. A ny ideas?
