Default Daimler Super V8 1999 vs 2001?

Hey guys,

Hope you are doing well.

Is anyone aware of any changes/modifications/add-ons when it comes to Super V8 1999 and 2001 comparison?

All I know is: no more Nikasil cylinder liners that were used in 1999 and 2000 models.

I am also aware of http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...j-series-7.htm

However, it's for XJ model and 1999 Daimler already had Reverse Park Control (introduced in 2001 for XJ), heated seats, etc.

Any information would be appreciated.

2000 Jaguar XJ Series: An ultraluxury Vanden Plas supercharged model joined the XJ lineup, and a satellite navigation system became available. Standard traction control now modulated throttle and brakes, instead of merely varying the throttle to maintain grip. Rain-sensing windshield wipers were new this year. Newly standard on XJR and optional on other models was a 320-watt Alpine stereo, and the XJR got redesigned alloy wheels.

2001 Jaguar XJ Series: Newly standard for 2001 was Jaguar's Reverse Park Control that warns of obstacles when backing up. A CD changer became standard for XJ8/XJ8L, the XJR added a heated rear seat, and heated front/rear seats became standard for the Vanden Plas.

The premium sound system was upgraded from Harman/Kardon to Alpine by 2000. 240 Watts vs. 320 watts. The ABS system was also updated in 2000.

Hi everyone,

Thanks to burmaz, I've found this link:

http://www.autoweb.com.au/cms/A_5175...wsarticle.html

Lots of great changes.

For model year 2000, Jaguar XJ Series, XK Series and Daimler models offer a range of detailed interior and exterior specification improvements which provide significant benefits in terms of quality, safety, security and comfort. Available at 1998 prices, the 2000 model year range also represents excellent value for money.

Commenting on the launch of the 2000 model year range, Mr Danny Rezek, Managing Director of Jaguar Australia, said:

The 2000 model year XJ and XK Series will build on the success of Jaguar's product led expansion. The intelligent application of innovative technology delivers class-leading quality, safety, security and value for money, reaffirming Jaguar's reputation as a rational purchase proposition."

Major enhancements to the Jaguar XJ Series, XK Series and Daimler models for the 2000 model year include:

Rain-sensing windscreen wipers - standard on XJ Series and Daimler, optional on XK8
ABS Plus - standard on XJ Series, XK Series and Daimler
Alpine 320 Watt Premium Sound System - optional onXJ Series and XK Series, standard on Daimler
Encrypted key transponder - standard on XJ Series, XK Series and Daimler Electronic seat belt pre-tensioners - now standard on XK Series
Re-styled sports seats standard on XJR and XJ Sport models
Improved Supercharged engine - standard for XJR, XKR, Daimler Super V8
Improved specifications - XJ Series, XK Series and Daimler
Traction control - standard on XJ Series

ABS Plus - XJ Series, XK Series, Daimler

Now a standard-fit feature on XJ Series, XK Series and Daimler, ABS Plus is Jaguar's Electronically Stabilised Braking System (ESBS).

ABS Plus represents a significant advance over conventional anti-lock systems. Should high-speed braking prove necessary, the system helps to improve road holding, steering performance and dynamic stability, particularly on curves.

Activated by even the lightest touch on the brake pedal, the system's sophisticated software monitors wheel speed information and compensates for vehicle oversteer by controlling the brake pressure at each wheel. This greatly diminishes the effect of wheel slip, improving grip and stability even during extreme cornering manoeuvres.

Rain-sensing windscreen wipers XJ Series, XK Series, Daimler

The rain-sensing windscreen wiper system is now a standard-fit feature on the XJ8, XJR, Sovereign and Daimler models and the XKR (coupe and convertible). The system is optional on the XK8 (coupe and convertible).

An infra-red sensor, located behind the rear-view mirror, detects the amount of moisture coming into contact with the windscreen and activates the wipers automatically, as well as dictating both the speed and frequency of the wiping action.

Rain-sensing provides enhanced convenience, as the driver does not need to operate the windscreen wipers. The system can be engaged and disengaged by selecting 'Auto' on the wiper control stalk and moving the column stalk to the 'intermittent' position.

The rain-sensing windscreen wiper system was first offered by Jaguar as an option on the S-TYPE.

Alpine 320 Watt Premium Sound System - XJ Series, XK Series, Daimler

Jaguar's new Alpine Premium Sound System increases total power output over the previous Premium Sound System from 240W to 3 20W, provides enhanced sound quality and features Digital Sound Processing (DSP).

DSP creates a 'virtual stage' which can be moved around inside the car. At the touch of a button, it is possible to select the optimum sound quality and stereo effects, for driver and passengers alike.

In XJ Series and Daimler models, there are five different occupancy settings to choose from: driver, front passenger, driver and front passenger, rear passengers or all occupants. In the XK coupe and convertible, the choices are: driver, front passenger or all occupants.

Including a six-disc CD autochanger, the Premium Sound System will meet the demands of the most discerning music aficionado. Sound is delivered through nine speakers in the XJ Series, Daimler and XK coupe, and through ten in the XK convertible. Due to the convertible's body design, subwoofer output is split between two speakers as opposed to one.

At the same time, the standard sound system of the XK Series has been upgraded to include six speakers instead of four, resulting in even better sound quality.

Encrypted key transponder - XJ Series, XK Series, Daimler

The immobiliser system on XJ Series, XK Series and Daimler models now has an encrypted key transponder which receives a rolling algorithm code to prevent any possible scanning. After full authentication, the encrypted code within the system is automatically generated for the next cycle.

For added security, the potential number of code combinations has been dramatically increased and now extends to tens of millions.

Electronic seat belt pre-tensioners - XK Series

For enhanced occupant safety, seat belt pre-tensioners in the XK Series are now activated electronically, rather than mechanically. This is achieved by a 'satellite' crash sensor, located below the console, which measures the rate of deceleration and electrically fires the pretension system, taking up any slack in the seat belt quicker than the mechanical system.

Electronically fired pre-tensioners are already standard fitment on all XJ Series, Daimler and S-TYPE models.

Re-styled sport seats - XJR, XJ Sport

The standard-fit sport seats for the XJR and XJ Sport models have been re-styled for enhanced comfort, with dual-hardness foam, a longer cushion and improved lateral support to complement vehicle ride and handling.

Improved Supercharged engine - XJR, XKR, Daimler Super V8

The 4-litre V8 Supercharged engine of the XJR, XKR and Daimler Super V8 has been upgraded to include:
New Engine Management System
Benefits include a reduction in C02 emissions of 11 - 12 per cent, dependent on model.

Oil temperature sensor
Monitors the oil temperature and adapts the air/fuel mixture to maintain optimum engine performance.

Daimler Super V8
Rain-sensing windscreen wipers.

XK8 coupe and convertible
Electronic seat belt pre-tensioners, boot stowage net and new 8 x 17 inch 'Lamina' alloy wheels on XK8 convertible.

XKR coupe and convertible
Rain-sensing windscreen wipers, electronic seat belt pre-tensioners, boot stowage net.

New interior trim and paint colours
All XJ Series models now adopt the interior styling which was previously reserved for the XJR and Sovereign, while the 'T-Piece' interior is discontinued.

The new interior theme adopts a contrast colour split between the darker upper facia and door top rolls, and the lighter facia, lower centre console, seats and lower door sections. The XK 'Sport' interior also adopts this style.

A new-style analogue clock is introduced on XJ Series and Daimler models. The clock has numerals as well as chaplets and all graphics are white, to match the instrument cluster.

At the same time, four new paint colours are introduced for the XK Series and two for the XJ Series and Daimler models. The XK Series now comes with a choice of 15 paint colours, while there are 14 choices on the XJ Series and Daimler.
New electronic throttle body
Allows automatic electronic control of the throttle by the Engine Management System.

Electronically-activated cruise control
Offers smoother operation than the previous vacuum-operated system.

Exhaust gas re-circulation
Reduces emissions by drawing gas vapour away from the exhaust manifold and back into the throttle body for re-combustion.

Improved specifications - XJ Series, XK Series, Daimler

For model year 2000, Jaguar XJ Series, XK Series and Daimler offer more refinement and value for money than ever. Every car in the line-up now comes with even more equipment as standard.

All models across the Jaguar XJ and XK Series now receive the following additional equipment as standard:

XJ8 3.2
Traction control, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats, full chrome window surrounds, rear cigar lighter, new 7 x 16 inch 'Corona' alloy wheels and rain sensing wipers.

Sovereign 3.2 & 4.0
Rain-sensing windscreen wipers, contrast seat piping, new 7 x 16 inch 'Lunar' alloy wheels and a wood/leather steering wheel.

XJR 4.0 Supercharged
Rain-sensing windscreen wipers, rear cigar lighter, tool kit, carpet mats, new 8 x 18 inch 'Asteroid' alloy wheels.

Adaptive damping (CATS) option now available on XJ8 3.2 and 4.0

For the 2000 model year, Jaguar's advanced Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) adaptive damping system may now be specified as an extra-cost option on XJ8 3.2 and 4.0 models. The CATS system optimises ride and handling by using uprated springs to increase roll stiffness and two-stage adaptive dampers under electronic control for enhanced ride refinement. Adaptive damping, which remains an extra-cost option on Sovereign and Daimler V8 models, is standard fitment on XJR and Daimler Super V8.

New/extended options and accessories - S-TYPE

For 2000 model year, Jaguar S-TYPE drivers can choose from an even wider range of options and accessories.

Dynamic Stability Control
Electronic Dynamic Stability Control - previously optional only on S-TYPE models with automatic transmission - is now extended as a factory-fit option to manual transmission models also.

Linking with the anti-lock, traction and steering systems, Dynamic Stability Control helps to control vehicle oversteer. lt uses electronic sensors to calculate actual vehicle motion and compares it with the direction initially chosen by the driver. lf the system detects that the driver's intended direction does not match that of the vehicle, it intervenes by applying brake force to any required combination of the four wheels.

New paint colours and interior trim combinations
Three new metallic paint colours are introduced: Platinum (replacing Meteorite), Pacific and Titanium, extending the colour range from 12 to 14 (11 metallic, 3 solid).

At the same time, three new interior colour combinations are added: Almond with Warm Charcoal, Cashmere with Warm Charcoal and lvory with Warm Charcoal. in each case, Warm Charcoal is the contrast colour for the upper door top rolls and upper facia, as well as the leather steering wheel and leather gearknob where fitted, while the centre stack is dark grey metallic. This extends the choice of interior colour combinations to eight for leather upholstery.

New Ski Hatch
A Ski Hatch, available as a factory-fitted option, provides a convenient, clean and secure means of carrying up to four sets of skis. ln contrast to a roof-mounted ski carrier, the Ski Hatch protects against theft and does not affect the car's exterior appearance or aerodynamics.

The owner's ski bag is loaded from the luggage compartment and through an opening in the centre of the rear seat. The bag is secured by webbing straps (in Warm Charcoal colour). When not in use, the bag is folded up and stored behind the centre armrest. A leather trim cover, available in the full range of colours to match all seat trims, hides the black plastic moulding of the hatch when the armrest is folded down.
* I'll just copy this, if page goes down or so.

Only 2001 remains now :-)
