.
I like to take a shot at rebuilding my diff but still need some info before i start ...
I found this easy to understand video with basic diff setup information ;
Differential Ring and Pinion Gear Setup - YouTube
and a document on replacing diff axle bearings which is helpfull ;
Jaguar V8 Axle Rebuild
One helpfull comment in the video that some people forget ;
measuring pinion preload with a ring-gear installed , you will also be measuring part of the side bearing preload ... thus get a incorrect value.
Does anyone here has the right specs for the pinion backlash , side-gear backlash and pinion preload for a '99 XJR (14HU) diff ?
Does there exists a rebuild pdf for this diff maybe ?
Thanks !!!

Have been looking for long myself, but to no avail. You can buy the spacer rings(/shimms) from Jaguar to set the pinion position and preload right, but have so far not found the details. Most specialists that work on these diffs use their experience from other ones to get it right.
In the end I opted to go to a specialist, as the work to swap a diff when it wasn't setup right is just too much.
Nevertheless, would like to do it once myself though, so hopefully a specialist will chime in.

Well that video you posted there looks like a ford 9 inch, the easiest thing in the world to put gears in. I have never done it on a jaguar, but I know the replacement pinion seal is available from jag with a new pinion flange too. The same basic ideas should apply to building this rear end once you have it out and on the table. You take the same measurements, and you will want the backlash to be in spec with good teeth marks (in the marking compound you should also get.) I hope you have a press to install the new bearings!
