Do You Think This Extended Warranty Coverage Is Worth the Price?

Hello Gentlemen:
I just rec'd a quote on an extended warranty that's backed by a reputable and well-rated administrator.
Please see the PDF attached for the coverage details.
The coverage is the PREMIER plan on page 3.
Here's my conundrum:
I paid $7500 for my 2001 XJ VDP with 76k miles.
This company caps their total reimbursement at what you paid for the car.
Here's the deal: The policy costs $3,192. $50 deductible. 4 yrs, 48,000 miles additional coverage.
That means that, in effect, that I'd be paying $3,192 to get a NET of $4,308 in coverage, over and above what I paid. ($7,500 minus $3,192).
Do any of you think that's worth it, based on the coverage shown in their plan?
The thing is, I don't know what services were performed on my car by the previous owner. I WILL check to see if the local Jag dealer can pull this up using the VIN, but other than that, I don't know.
Also, there's a 90-day, 1000 mile waiting period.
Would this cover the main issues that are known with the 2001 XJ?
Any thoughts from you experts would sure be appreciated!
Sincerely,
SirJag

Take 1/2- 2/3 of the money you would be paying for the warranty. Get the following done at a trusted indie jag shop.
1. Change Oil
2. Change Coolant (or have shop test)
3. Change brake fluid
4. Change at least the upper cam tensioners and valve gaskets
5. Change spark plugs
6. Change tranny fluid
7. Change rear dif oil
Then take the money left over and put it in the bank for future repairs or service. If your tensioner breaks you are out the $3100 plus will not likely have a driveable car depending on how much damage is done. The warranty would likely cover the cost of a rebuilt tranny but wouldn't leave you much left. Basically that policy is virtually worthless imo, you're better served by catching up and keeping up with the regular service with the money.

Research on the mechanical history of the car should be the first order of effort. Without that there is not a reasonable answer to your question.
Based on the fact that you would consider paying half the value of a car for a warranty I assume that you have no intentions of any DIY work on the car.
Bad deal.

Well, thanks all for your valued input.
I've since found a warranty that pays NADA retail, not what I paid for the car, which was 4k less than that.
This warranty also pays for wear and tear items... consequential damage (damage to things that aren't covered, but were damage by things that were) [that's kind of a funny sentence, lol]... overheating... and seals and gaskets. 5 years, 60k additional miles... $3200 (dealer cost). This is a far better deal.

Hi
I had a 3rd party Warranty that has expired on our XJ8. I would ask and get in writing the following items before I even considered buying it. Make sure it covers the primary and secondary timing chain tensioners (also the related guide rails), all the gaskets required including the 28 Isolators for cam (valve) covers (not covered by our warranty).
Not all of these warranty companies paid for all of the parts that are needed or recommendated by the repair shop or the Jaguar service department.
You need to ask and understand what is really covered by their warranty and what are the limits of their payments for certain repairs (also additional repairs that occur within short period of time -ie weeks, few months).
Our Policy was for 4 years or until the car stayed below 85000 miles and cost us $2250. The company paid out $800 during the life of the policy.
Our major repairs occured just after 90,000 miles - $2000 for primary and secondary tensioners, $3000 for the transmission (R&R plus the rebuild).
The major repairs could have covered by the policy if someone had informed us about these known issues when we had all the routine services performed at Jaguar over the last 7 years.
