Default Door handle refresh: aftermarket gaskets?

Doing some work on one of my 02 R's -- can see where the paint on both passenger side handles is beginning to fade. The gaskets are intact .. but show signs of failure. Has anybody gone through all the trouble to remove the handles ... paint and replace the gasket? Looks like a big job .... the gasket being part of the handle are not available separately. Would only have aftermarket available.

Bought this car new and it's often facing the sun on the passenger side when it's at my beach house. It's going in for a full detail tomorrow and I'm going to evaluate the paint after ... it's silver -- believe what I am seeing is paint fade. The trunk has some rust at the lower lip (only a tiny spot visible) -- if I decide to have professionally fixed -- would have them paint the handles as well.

I bought OEM style gaskets for my XK8 years ago, but then my XJ8 needed handle refurb. Basically, the OEM style gaskets have to be cut like the Aftermarket gaskets to work, so just get the cheap aftermarket ones.

Removing the handles is not that hard. Once you learn the proper way to remove the door cards, its all downhill from there. The only tricky bit is the anti theft shields. Since no thief in their right mind would steal a 20 year old Jaguar, I just left those off.

The door handles come off by a small setscrew that has a funny washer on it that must be properly placed

Recommend stuffing inside door cutout with a rag if you were to drop hardware

Its quite easy to do, its taking the cards off that takes the longest ...the hardest is the drivers door, be sure to put Locktite on the screw for the cylinder retainer when reapplying.

I had to remove the driver door card to fix the broken inside handle. Stupid on my part -- did not replace the cable. It looked fine, Got it all back together - understood it must have stretched. So -- I will take a closer look at the handle when I replace the cable.

Hate taking untouched door cards off -- something always happens and the wood is fragil at this point.

Precaution from dropping things into the bottom but retrievable as there are other cutouts to fish out

And a magnet on a string trick

But then the hardware may have been stainless steel

did you try -- they say foam? Interesting that more than one person is making replacements.
