Door Lock Actuators

Door Lock Actuators
Friends,
So I need a driver door/lock actuator for a 2001 XJ8. Front pass side is about to go, too. (Lot of play in the door handle.)
I believe the driver door part no. is: GNA1081BK and the front pass food actuator is 1080DG.
Several dealer parts departments say the part is discontinued or a new one costs about $600 each.
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
LA

When you say lots of play in the handle, are you talking about the exterior or interior handle? Interior handle would indicate the actuator cable is failing. A fairly straight forward repair at around $100.00 per cable.
Do the doors lock and unlock correctly with the key fob?
Can you lock and unlock the drivers door with the key?

Look for salvage yards close if you want to get big/heavy parts but sometimes small parts are shipped cheap so distance is not a factor.

First the inside handle doesn't affect the locking solenoid.
Does the door unlock with the FOB?
If it does open the door and spray liberally the lock assembly with wd-40 and spray the key hole. Then open and lose the door and lock and unlock a few times. The try locking with the FOB.
It is possible that one of the micro-switches is frozen and you can get it freed up.

Forgive me for jumping in on this, but I'm having similar problems, all of a sudden the driver's door (RHD) stopped locking/unlocking with the fob, the other 3 doors work normally using the fob. Everything works great (all 4 doors) if I use just the key manually (thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...k-open-225786/ )
I've changed the lock mechanism, sprayed the original with a nearly a full can of WD40, checked the micro switches, changed the door module, still won't work. There's a connector behind the left heel-board near the relay, I believe that the relay sends a signal to this connector that 'splits' the signal to all four doors, there's a small drawing of the circuit in my thread. I'm leaning towards a bad connection between that connector block and the door actuator, as the 3 others all work fine?
For tamsruby, I followed the manual around page 2,275 (right at the back) on how to change the mechanism, how to change the handles is also around the same place - 501‐14: Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems. It was quite easy following that, only took about 20 minutes and the handle and mechanism were both out.
For avern1, The manual mentions various switches/actuators/lock state etc. Are all these switches etc, micro or otherwise, part of the locking assembly or should I be looking elsewhere? I did notice at least 1 micro-switch as part of the lock assembly plus wires running into blocks and into what I think was a solenoid?
