Default Door Mirror Covers - repaint, replace or recover

My 2000 XJR's door mirror covers have some bubbling and scratched paint. The car is Platinum silver (MDZ) and all the posts suggest it's a hard color to match with a rattle can so I'm not convinced I should try to repaint them.

An option would be to find replacement chrome covers from ebay so I don't have to deal with the paint match. Do the chrome covers chip, pit and scratch? Pictures look good but it's hard to tell from a photo of chrome, everything looks shiny and perfect.

There's also new chrome covers that attach to the existing ones with double sided tape. Anyone have any experience with these?

I've had the adhesive chrome/ABS caps on mine for about 3-4 years now w/ no issues.

Hi King Charles, what's the fit like? Do they look stock on the car with minimal gaps and edges showing? I took a look at your gallery pics and your car looks great with them but there's no pictures showing close up.

They fit almost flush/ merely a mm or so difference.

Agreed it could be hard to match on a "patch repair" to a panel with a rattle can but on a separate component like the mirror cover where the whole thing is re-painted, you are then unlikely to see the difference.

I'd have a go at originality first before considering other options.
