Default Door wood trim

About 1 month ago, I stumbled on a very "weird" Jaguar pricing for a matched set( 4 pieces) of VDP short weelbase ( VDP having an lighter wood inlay in the wood trim) door wood trim.

The "regular" price on a set of door wood trim is about $1500 but, for whatever reason Jaguar listed this kit for much less

Anyhow the part # was JLM21741 and is listed for the last 1000 cars or so made.
For the price I took a chance and ordered 1 kit.
The kit fit perfect on my 01 ( and will on 98/03 cars) the only difference being that on the back of the trim the 2 metal "hooks" by the door handle are not used and the wood is retained in front by the black plastic trim for the door handle.
frankly it's a better design.
To make a long story short, I ordered some more kits and cleaned Jaguar of their inventory .
The part is therefore NLA ( No Longer Available) and I'm planing to put them for sale on fleebay for $199 but I wanted to give members of this forum an option first.

I hope this post is not in violation of any rules

I think those panel's are from the '03 XJ8 soverign package which was a short wheelbase XJ8 with wood inlays and wood steering wheel.

Does anyone know if the front and rear panels are identical?

Donzi if front and rear are identical then I might consider going halves.

Door wood trim come as a matched set, meaning the 4 pieces in the kit are identical BUT, every set is different, a little bit in color but more so in the grain of the wood.

What I'm trying to say is that if you take a piece of a set to use with an another set, it will not match the remaining pieces.

If you have only 1 damaged piece you really have only 2 choices, either have the piece refurbished ( Madera Concept do a great job) for about $150/200 or buy a new matched set.

The rear wood is longer than the front.

This kit will not fit a US VDP ( at least the rear woods) because the VDP in the US was only a long wheelbase car and therefore the wood is even longer.
I could sell some VDP long wheelbase kit for about $249

They look nice -- what do you need to do to install them?

just a phillips screwdriver.
In the center of the black plastic cup trim, undernearh the chrome door handle, you will see a little round plastic cap. Remove it to acess a screw that need to be removed.
Once done remove the cup from the door handle.
To remove the wood, lift ( meaning pulling toward the center of the car the wood at the rear ONLY for an 1" or so, then, slide the wood backward ( toward the rear of the door)

Only on the US VDP and LWB cars are they different length.

Sooooo, are you in on going in half on a set?
Yes, they are.
Even on the short wheelbase cars, the rear door wood is longer than the front.
Even more so on LWB
On the SWB the front wood is 24,5" and the rear is 27"
Check your XJR

BTW, you never reported the outcome of the part #/packaging issue for the XJR100 gear change knob, MXD4950BA in Warm Charcoal with Cherry stiching.
Since I gave you the part # for it and you say that I must have made a mistake since the box you got had that part # on it but with a different color knob in it ( I told you that I was sure of my part # and that it must haver been a packaging mistake), I will appreciate knowing what the Jag dealer told you when you called them about it.

Yes they are different indeed. Thanks.
They did make the mistake good and shipped the correct knob to me. It came from England
in a box with a different number on it, maybe it was superceeded?
The number on the box is 02MXD4950BA
I never said you made the mistake....??
Thanks for the help on it. They are good people out there.

I'm glad that it worked out and your confirmation that they are good peoples.
The "02" is not a part # but rather a code for the route/destination of the part on the picking ticket.
Your box must have had 2 labels, the one for the part# and the picking ticket which is usually white and pink

Default wheelbase

Do you have a standard wheel base (xj8/xjr) or a long wheel base (VDP/JX8L)?
