Doors will not lock electronically
Hi everyone, I just purchased myself a 2003 XJ8. I will have pictures and a proper introduction up in good time.
In the meantime...my car's locks will not lock/unlock electronically. I just noticed it this morning and it was working when I picked her up a few days ago. I changed batteries in the remote and I am puzzled as to what it could be. Any ideas?

I had the same problem with my remote. Sometimes work and not work.
Found an article about remote problems. The remotes pickup grime, dirt and other residue in the inners under the rubber cover.
If you are brave and careful take remote apart and remove the rubber cover from the pc board and clean the circuit board contact with pencil eraser. the carefully clean the residue from the rubber cover. Reassemble and things should work fine.
NOTE: remote doesn't loose its code when batteries are removed.
Also If you are not sure if remote has been programmed for this vehicle , you can reprogram. The cleaning will help in either case. I was surprised of all the residue inside my remote.
GOOD LUCK:

Yes blackbeard you dont loose programming by changing batteries, and on the other thread aa quote. Im assuming his remote didnt work so he changed batteries and then after programming the remote works again. That becuase remote go back and static electricity takes them out as does moisture from sweating , humidity etc... As long as you dont have an stype you can reprrogramm the remote easily, but in my experiance this lasts only so long before the remote quits working again,,sooooo its useally a new remote at that point
