Default Drag race: XJR vs 08 Charger R/T

Who wins this race off the line? And why?

assuming you're talking about the rwd 5 speeds, not the 4wd versions... on paper they're pretty much identical. Same power, weight, gearbox... only thing the Jag has going for it is midrange torque, which will make a difference, but the Dodge has the advantage of being newer, and possibly having a better traction control system?

The real questions is... who cares?

It's a drivers race imo, whoever gets a better launch.

Probably the Jag. An 08 R/T has largely the same gear ratios in the trans as the XJR, and the Jag has a better final drive ratio at 3.06 as opposed to the RT's 2.82s. The Charger is slightly heavier at ~4100 lbs as opposed to ~3900-4000 for the XJR. The XJR also makes a decent amount more power, and more mid-range torque (superchargers are wonderful things). Neither launches particularly well, so assuming they get nominally the same traction, the Jag should have a decent advantage. From a roll, Jag all the way. I can confirm this, having run a couple of stock 5.7 LX cars on the highway and having beaten all of them. From a dig, it's all up to who gets lucky and gets more traction.

Speaking of traction....am I the only guy here on the board that rarely gets much wheels spin, hence not much of an issue in regards to launching? I can not even think of the last time that only one wheel spun. It is always, two 10-15ft of hard acceleration marks(not deep black, just somewhat noticeable marks)

Under good dry conditions with nothing on the surface, traction is decent. If there is anything (i.e. sand, leaves, dirt) on the road, or in any kind of rain, one wheel peel for days on a hard launch. And I experienced way more wheel spin at the track than on the street. Not sure why, the track was pretty well prepped. And all that is just in a straight line. The lack of a proper limited slip was almost crippling when I took mine to the autocross. Clouds of tire smoke out of every corner. These cars really could do with a posi.

I never had much of a problem with wheel spin either, but I tend to smoothly add the power off the line.

Smooth is fast, even when not turning
