Default drain oil and coolant for cam removal

I want to remove the cam cover and check for upper timing tensioners.
Do you need to drain the engine oil and all coolant before doing this?
I wasn't sure if the DIY thread mentioned needing to do these steps...

Don't drain anything, just remove the cam covers to inspect the chains, tensioners and guides.

Replace the gaskets/seals unless they are fairly NEW.
