I'm betting a battery cable reset will clean it up. At minimum its the easiest 1st step. If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to pull the door card and reset the Control Module. Just unplug it for 2 minutes and replug, then test. For some reason my Albums won't load so I can post the diagram for you, so use this link from and old thread with a similar issue.... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...5/#post1449564

Okay, pulled the door card, sprayed the latch, and it seemed to work until I buttoned it all back up.
now, same thing. Here’s what’s NOT working
-”driver door open “ light is on
-Car will not lock via key fob (beeps) which I know indicates something is open (or at least it thinks so)
-Engaging to Drive doesn’t lock the doors
-interior locking switch doesn’t work.
- reverse safety beeps isn’t working either.
is there a fuse I can check out?
or do I need to replace the card and or actuator?
many thanks guys

I am not in Valet mode, just checked. I have removed the negative battery cable (for about an hour), done a hard reset touching neg to pos, sprayed down the latch, lock, etc....
still nothing has changed.
This happened quite suddenly, could it be a battery issue? Its a newer one, less that 6 months old, so I had not thought of that until now.

What I was trying to remember was the lock function test, which I believe if you push down the driver lock post, all the other doors lock. But because the door is open, they will all unlock again. I suspect a bad latch switch. I'm out of town on some contract work or I'd do the test on mine to verify that.
Since you've done the reset, it shouldn't be the battery unless its not being properly charged. But from your posting she starts and drives proper. Perhaps a stupid Q, but you don't have a "door open" indicator in your dash do you? When you had the door card off, did you unplug the control module to reset it directly? The battery reset doesn't always work on that.

Hey man! I really appreciate your input and help here. I don’t want to put you out while your traveling...but I will answer some of the things you addressed above,
-There IS a “Driver Door Ooen” light on the dash!
-The locks do exactly you are describing, when I manually lock the driver door, all locks go down, and the immediately open again.
- Yes, I reset the card itself on the drivers side door, not just a battery reset. When I did that, it all worked for a few minutes, but the reverted back after I put the door back together.
- can i buy just a latch switch? Or do I have to buy the whole latch? - IF it sounds like that is the problem...
many, many thanks buddy! Safe travels!

No issues, I travel all the time, so its all good. I believe you have to replace the whole latch because its a riveted sealed case.
Double check on Dave's site here, I only saw the rear unit... https://shop.everydayxj.com/SearchRe...rch=Door+latch ...don't be afraid to contact him if he doesn't have it listed, super nice guy, great prices and service.
Others:

... https://xks.com/
If he doesn't then you can try used parts... Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market (Car guts has great prices and reasonable shipping). Of course you can try Ace Pick A Part in JAX or Coventry in GA... Jaguar and Land Rover Used Parts Info | Coventry West
or... XJ8-VDP-XJR (98-03) - Body Parts - Page 1 - Jaguar Parts Specialist
I would hope someone can chime in that may have fixed this before, but I don't recall ever seeing it.

Hi 3timejag,
Highhorse has already given you some good suggestions so I don't have much to add, but the first thing that comes to mind is that on the earlier XJ40 models a known issue was the door locks losing their synchronization. The procedure for resynchronizing them was simple. If I recall, you sit in the car with all four doors closed and then manually lock all four doors. Then unlock the driver's door and all four locks should unlock. I don't know if this procedure works on an X308 but it would be worth a try. Sometimes it would take multiple attempts for it to "take."
You can download the Electrical Guide at the link below. The central locking components and locations are listed on pdf page 118, and the wiring schematic is shown on pdf page 119:
Jaguar X308 Electrical Guide 2001-2003
The Security and Locking Control Module (SLCM) is in the right rear corner of the trunk/boot, and a known issue with X308s is shorted wiring in the harness loom under a plastic cover that follows the curve of the right trunk/boot hinge. It would be worth carefully removing the harness cover and inspecting those wires for any cracks or worn spots in the insulation of individual wires.
Some locking features are programmable with Jaguar dealer-level software such as IDS, WDS or SDD. Either a dealer or good independent shop with the proper equipment may be able to reset and reprogram your system to operate properly. The central locking system communicates via the CAN, so dealer-level programming may ultimately be the only solution.
I did a quick search for any Technical Service Bulletins related to X308 locking and didn't find one, but I did find a TSB for the X-Type which might possibly be helpful:
Locking or Unlatching Issues Diagnostic Information X-Type
Cheers,
Don

Thank you so much Don!
when I lock the drivers door manually from the inside, door closed, all the locks engage to locked position and then immediately unlock. Something is telling the system that the drivers door is open, so don’t you think the door latch has malfunctioned? I reset the processor card in the door, and it looks to have been replaced or quite new. (Ford part).
I will check those wires at the SLM as well. I have owned three other XJ’s (1-6 and two other 8’s) and am familiar with the SLM failures associated with them. In my other experiences, there is usually a “boot ooen” light and various tail light issues when the SLM’s are faulty or shorted. I will check, none the less though!
*******Before sending the above response, I re-read your suggestions and realized you said to manually lock all the OTHER doors, then do the drivers door......
SO, I tried this, and here’s a weird thing....I locked the rear passenger doors manually, but when I locked the FRONT PASSENGER door, it also locked the DRIVERS door, and then they ALL IMMEDIATELY UNLOCKED.
Now my question is...would the “Drivers Door Open” light on the dash also come on if there is an issue with the front passenger door??
If so, then I may be addressing the WRONG DOOR for my issue? Maybe it’s the PASSRNGER FRONT DOOR that has the problem? I was going on the indicator light saying “Drivers Door Open”.
many, many thanks Don!
