Drivers Door "Stopper Failed"
#3
On mine, the anchors for the door side of the keeper stripped out and cracked the whole assembly, as well as slightly mangling the sheet metal area around the keeper, so it was just completely loose. A few fender washers and a good assembly from the junkyard, a couple hours fiddling with the tight space there, and it was good as new.
My door is a few fender washers heavier from the fender washers that fell into the inaccessible space between layers of sheet metal at the bottom, so keep that, or a magnet, in mind when doing this.
Looks like the jag name for it is the door check, part GMD1983AB

The check arm has pulled away from the metal of the door. I ended up just welding in new metal since I already had the door off for other body work, otherwise the metal washer fix appears to work fine.

Take it apart first: you need to know whether you need a new check stop or can use heavy washers or a special spacer (all available on-line) to fix the problem. I bought the spacer, took the check stop off to discover that the check stop had broken at the top bolt hole. Waited another week until Gaudin could mail the new stop.
Either way, an easy fix if you remove the door card. Many good threads on each part of the fix.
If it is creaking and/or popping, it is about to fail (mine lasted two years once the noise started), but as Bob noted above, once it quiets down, it is done.
