Default Drivng My XJ8

I just got home from a nearly 3 week driving vacation. I put about 4,500 miles on my XJ8 and it ran flawlessly! What joy to drive!

This car was MADE to cruise on the highway -- at 90 mph, no less! I didn't do much of the 90 mph driving, but 80-85 mph was commonplace. This car can cruise at that speed and still have enough oomph to get around the slowpokes.

If you don't drive your Jag, all I can say is this -- GET IT ON THE ROAD! What a great car to drive.

I just got my Jag in April and I've already put over 20k miles on it. I drive it every day to and from work, and take it on vacation whenever I feel the urge to go somewhere.

Just wanted to mention this.

I know the feeling. I drove my 2003 XJ8 from Pasadena to Ottawa (did about 3000 miles) a few years ago.

OLdmike...good to hear a jaguar being used for what it was designed to do ;o)
Like a thoroughbred race horse, they love to be exercised....not tethered to a post and fed on weedy chaff! ;o)=)
I took my car cross country and return back in '09 covering 10,400klm (6450 miles) without incident.

For such a large heavy car, the big killer is short hopping on a cold engine.
The only way to combat that is more frequent and thorough servicing.

My car is nearing 200,000klm and i hope it will double that and with due care and attention...plus a few parts, I see no reason why irt won't and it's still on it's original Nikasil engine....mind you, the gearbox has been replaced ;o)

I use Penrite HPR-5 5W40 full synthetic in the engine along with Nulon E-30 PTFE additive.
Castrol Transmax-Z (known as Super Sport in US) full synth in transmission, changed every three years.
Nulon GL-5 80-90 full synth in the diff, changed every three years.
Lucas Power Steering Reviver plus ATF in pwer steering.
Nulon Long Life Green coolant which surpasses the Ford reccomended spec...flushed every three years.
All the fluids i have mentioned are sourced in Australia and i feel sure their are the eqivelant quality fluids available in your country.

I have fitted a remote oil filter to this car and am just about to install a dip stick tube kit to the ZF trans and allow me to check fluid and i change using the cooler line approach to change the whole fluid and not just part off.
I'm getting too old and cranky to be climbing around under cars ;o)=)

The XJR is about to make a trip for 3000 total
miles... hopefully I can eliminate my last 2
squeaks and rattles in the car. I have obliterated
a lot of squeaks and rattles since I got the car.

It has been an oil consumtion expert, using only
4/10ths of a quart over 3200 miles.

I hope it will have improved since its last cruise-control
only highway journey, where it averaged between 18-19
miles per gallon.

This time I am predicting 21.5-23mpg, ideally.

It's going to be Top-Gear style, with 2-way radios and a
VW GTI-driving compatriot. Hopefully the VW doesn't
break down like they always do.

No problems with pain in the right leg after hours of driving? Without cruise control of course. There seems to be no position where the gas pedal leg is supported just right.

XJAY8 -- sorry, but I don't know what short hopping means!

plums -- I have cruise control, but since there's almost always too much traffic to use it, I tend to drive my car manually! I don't get any pain in my right leg, but I do wish there was a proper dead pedal for my left foot.

My car is so comfortable that I call it the marshmallow. I've driven many other cars, but this is hands-down the most comfortable I've ever owned.

What could be better than cruising along at 85 mph with tunes blaring and big smile on your face?!!! Of course, I drove closer to the speed limit due to traffic, but once I hit triple digits and the car never complained.

This is the only car I've had that doesn't promote fatigue.

BTW I averaged about 23.5 mph on my last 14,000 miles -- Wisconsin to Florida.
