Ebay Seller Says, "You can't program your own Jaguar remote!"

@SirJag
Thank you very much for clearing everything up and posting the numbers for posterity.
It is quite likely that the bigger remote vendors will cover themselves with the "go to dealer" mantra unless they know for certain that it can be done by the customer. Otherwise, they would spend more time doing returns than selling.
As for the remote headlight feature on the square separate remote, it is the button at the bottom left. It also works as a panic button. Those two features may also require changes in the "features file" depending on how the car was setup at delivery. At least, the owners manual says so for the panic button feature.
BTW, it is claimed that there is a way to program a third key to the car if you already have two working keys without dealer intervention.

okay Im still unclear that I was clear on the FACT that if you have a Stype there IS NOT a back door programming for remotes, flip style remote or any other. Forget the key part, you cannot back door program a remote for a stype period... just so everyone is clear on that. X type, XJ and XK yes...

Any reader who ignores the applicability of any specific piece of information to their specific vehicle does so at their own peril.
For example, one of only a half dozen results for the search "valve clearance" contains a post from you. It says .010" and .012" - but for your race vehicles. Not which race vehicles nor did it say Jaguar. Anyone who turns around and uses those numbers on anything else has no one to blame but himself.

Ok ... but the thread is in the X308 specific area. For anyone who reads the forum via the "todays posts" or "new posts" lists, it is a good idea to take note of the area that the message was posted in. The information ought to be read in that light.

Janbache, post #17 I already answered, you can use a flip key and remote on a X308 been there done that. the remote portion you can program yourself, the key transponder has to be done with IDS/SDD at the dealer or an equiped locksmith

Well, remember that I discovered that I CAN program my keys to open/close doors, boot, etc, but I make no claims to be able to program the CHIP inside the keyhead that allows your car to start by reading that chip. That's another story altogether and takes a special device to program it. All I know about programming the key to open/close doors (lock/unlock, that is), etc. I posted in this forum. It was a breeze.

Replacing 2004 XKR key fob
I want to purchase a replacement LJE2610-AC key fob, but am concerned about the following warning that appeared on at least two vendor websites:
"if there is a metal key, it is cut and a new metal key will need to be cut."
Does this mean if i purchase a used key fob, i will have to have a new key made? If that is the case, i will do without remote entry, since a new key costs about $500 here on Maui.
Mahalo,

You can indeed buy a fob and program it to your car, I did it as many here have also. Use the key you already have.

reprogramming fobs, cannot be done for XK8 but...
I have tried reprogramming fobs for my 1997 XK8 according to the instructions some of which were varied.
I have wasted hours and not succeeded. You will probably have to go to jag dealer and pay up to $450. Sorry.
What I did with mine, as I had non working fob, was buy a new housing and cleaned all terminals on the old fob and put it into new housing, replaced batteries of course. Works like a charm. Cost $25 on ebay.
Good luck
