I have personally installed several ECMs that were purchased by customers from various "rebuilders" and have yet to see one work properly. I have also sent 2 out to rebuilders at customers request to save money and neither worked when returned and I am still fighting with one of them for my money back. After sending the ECM back and forth to them at least 4 times it still did not work and they insisted it was fine and that something else was at fault. Wrong answer, the ECM from Jaguar worked fine. Most places that claim "rebuilding" of the ECM are just repairing common problems. If the fault you have is beyond a common problem they wont be able to fix it gauranteed. The same applies to the rebuilt ABS modules you see as well. If it is more than the common broken solder joint to the pump wires they can't fix the ABS module either. How else do you think they can offer module rebuilding for $75. The electronic parts alone to build either of these modules has got to be at least $250, have you ever looked inside? It's a scam, you pays your money and you takes your chances and good luck getting your money back when it doesn't work.

Update, I read my manual and determined the ECM and two other parts are covered under a longer warranty. In Canada it is 8 years and 130,000 km. Fortunately my car is still under warranty for the ECM. I had to point the extension out to the service writer. My ECM is on its way from across the pond.
