Ecm repair or replacement?
Hello I am trying to contact Motorcarman on this forum. I am located in Dallas area and would like to know if you have a shop that I could visit for repairs, or maybe contact info to ask you a question about my 98 jaguar xj8 ecm. I accidentally drilled through my ecm it will still start my car but rides rough and has lights on dash on. I have a used replacement with matching #'s but it won't start my car? Hoping it can be reprogrammed to work with my car? Please help it was a gift from someone very special 1998 but only has 42000 + - miles 😢.

I don't get on the forum too much during the day, usually in the evening but I got a message from RJ237 and it forwarded the PM to my email.
The replacement ECM will not start the engine until it has had an Immobilization Setup performed.
It is basically an introduction to all the modules on the network so they all know each other. There can be only ONE ECM configured at a time so once the replacement is setup, the original will not start the car unless the procedure is repeated.
I can do this but the car needs to be here in Wise County. I am probably 50 or 60 miles from you in the Dallas area. I guess you could trailer the car here to get the configuration done, unless you can find someone in the Dallas area to do that for you.
You will need WDS, IDS, or maybe AutoEnginuity or AutoLogic??
I have WDS but maybe another forum member has SDD with Legacy IDS that can do the IMMO Setup.
I'll try to send you a message.
