EGR valve cleaning

Hi All,
Well what started as a cam cover gasket replace to fix an oil leak is turning into a OH SH*T that needs fixing too !!!
I read that the VVT engines do not use an EGR valve, and S/C engines do, so knowing from experience with a Mustang that at 200K miles the EGR valve might be a "little dirty" I thought I should take a look. It's located under the throttle body on the rear of the inlet elbow.
I'm also replacing the part load breather tube with something a little better than the plastic crap Jaguar uses.
Here is what I found.
View from top of inlet elbow with throttle body off

Took off the valve and started by tapping lightly to dislodge debris

Then carefully (with a rag in the blower inlet) I cleaned out the elbow port.
This is what I got out (the hole was almost closed with this crap)

So if you have a high mileage XJR I suggest you service the EGR valve, if the larger pieces dislodge and go into the engine they will cause damage.

Can't see your pictures Roger, but from what you said I can totally agree about the EGR inlet being coked up - that's why I deleted mine ![Wink](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)
There's some info and posts on the subject in the s type forum look for the posts by Avos. One more thing to forget about once done in my book.
As a polite suggestion, use a new gasket under the throttle, you know the metal crush one, because if you don't there's a chance of unmetered air leaks that will drive you mad.
