Default EGR valve testing

Can anyone tell me how to test the EGR valve on a 99 XJR to determine if it is functioning properly? I'm trying to find the source of a vacuum leak or problem with the EGR valve. Hearing what sounds like an air leak from somewhere near the EGR valve. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Your leak is located where the EGR bolts to the intake elbow....on the bottom of it. Either the 2 bolts are loose or have fallen out.

Wow. Either a common problem or you are psychic. Thanks!

Unfortunately not psychic in this case. EGR valve was bolted on securely. I did find the leak, however. Torn hose near the EGR from what I assume is the s/c bypass valve. Fortunately the tear was right at the hose barb and the hose was pretty long, so snip snip and all is right with the world. OK, not completely. See other thread here:
