...how do you open a locked gas filler door? ![Icon Omg](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_omg.gif)
Excitedly I drove back from the dealer in my VDP... pulled into the gas station... and was thwarted by a locked gas filler door.
Some post I read somewhere said I need the remote to open it? (I got only a key... no remote). I saw no switch, etc on the dash, floor. Argh.
I also tried unlocking all the doors first, but no go. Is something wrong with it?
ALSO... I need to buy a remote since I don't have one. I see a bunch of them on Ebay. Many of the listings say 2001 XJ8. This is sufficient, no? I've seen some old posts about people calling their dealership and giving them their VIN number for some reason. Any insight on this would be appreciated!
Thanks, all!

P.S. It wasn't easy for me to post this. ROFL!!!!!!

The normal operation is that the gas door is open when the car is unlocked. It locks when the doors are locked.
There is an emergency release for the gas door in the trunk in the general area of the gas door. It involves pushing on some lever or something like that.
Does your key have a green head? If so, you only got the valet key which will not open the trunk. The master keys have black heads.
When buying remotes it is generally better to search by the FCC ID and part number if in the US. This is because there are frequency differences.

Yes, there is an emergency fuel door open puller thing in the trunk near the fuel door. Is your car stuck in valet mode ? Do you have a black headed key or the green key ? When I bought my car all they gave me was a valet key and the car was in valet mode. Long story, but I finally got it all sorted out and got a black key and a remote. The valet mode is a royal PITA. Maybe it's good for something, but I don't go out to the opera that often and have a valet park my car.

Yes... I have a black key only. I have no remote though. What's the best way to:
1) Get another key (they only gave me 1)
2) Get a remote
And is it possible to get a combo key/remote that I've seen for my car, rather than the separate units?
Thanks so much,
SirJag

Hi all
I have been emailing SirJag on a number of known issues and sent him a message on this issue.
I used to always have a problem using the central locking switch on the dash.
Frustrated by having a problem with switch on the dash I tried this:
I started to use the interior front door locking button to lock all the doors, the trunk and the fuel filler flap. You just push the button down to lock everything. Therefore if you push it down then pull it up, it unlock everything. And it does work this way.
It seems to be the easiest and quickest way to do it.
I just looked in our Driver's Handbook and found it on page 2-9 (Security). Only mentions how to do a lock all doors and trunk. Page 4-11 (Pre-driving) Fuel Filler Fap and Cap says. -ensure that all doors are unlocked
