Well, I knew it would happen sooner or later- of course with my luck, it was sooner. (2002 XJ8 76,000)
So, I am on my way tomorrow to AutoZone to buy the code reader (Innova2 F). I suspect it is going to be a very used item.
The question I have is this- is this light most likely a fairly minor thing or could it be a catastrophic engine-about-to blow? Since I have never seen other dash lights, I am not sure if other, worse warnings will come on.
The engine is purring like a kitten and the drive is as smooth as silk, nothing out of the ordinary at all. The only odd thing I noticed was the check gas cap light came on almost at the same time as the engine light, then, after a couple minuets, went off.
Would you feel safe to drive this car 45 miles to work? I kinda' do not feel like having my car go to pieces on the interstate. I will get the code reader at lunch.
Sure is hard to locate a shop willing to work on Jaguars. I have been calling around, no luck. Figure I will need one before long. I saw the check list of "to do" things for this model. Guess I better be ready.
Thanks!
