Default Engine Oil Cap Leak

Hi,

there is engine oil leak from the oil cap and also from the valve beside it, i checked the cap, there seem to be no wear at all, the cap looks perfect, wondering if i need to change the cap and the valve or there might be something else putting extra pressure on them. whats the common issue when there is oil leak from the cap and the valve?

I would think your part load breather is plugged and not releasing the crankcase pressure. I would check all tubes from the cam covers and make sure they are clear. On the part load breather you may need to clean out the orifice in the cam cover. It is a small hole that you can ream out will a small drill bit. Do a search for part load breather and you will find instructions.

Turn the drill bit with fingers, I recall 3/32" being mentioned. Don't be one of those that had to take the cover off after losing it.

A couple of turns of (painters) tape around the end of the drill bit will prevent that .. just in case ...

Take a close look around the engine. Every car shipped with one on the engine. Mechanics over the years have used them and some put them back others just tossed them in their tool box.
If you can't find one on a fitting on the engine you can use a pair of needle nose pliers. Insert the pliers into the fitting and instead of squeezing the handles spread them to exert pressure on the the straps. Gently rock the fitting and it will disconnect without damage.
On my x-308 I found it on a fitting beneath the throttle body. The xk8 was inserted in the part load breather hose.

http://www.jagrepair.com/images/TSB/...ings600-03.pdf Don't feel bad, I went out and tried to get mine off with no luck. That thing has "I'm going to break" written all over it! Here's some close ups that should provide insight on the connection. Engine Oil Cap Leak-image-2781409479.jpg Engine Oil Cap Leak-image-3623362725.jpg

Finally got it, lightly squeezed both sides of the ring opposite the flat verticals with a pair of needlnose pliers while gently prying up on the bottom. Someone had applied RTV around the snout of mine which is why it was reluctant.

I have seen that the orings on the caps go hard and one case had a crack and weaped. Can get a pack of 10 36x5mm from Amazon.

For what it's worth it's basically a REV limiter feature, my Lincoln LS did the same thing.
