engine swap

looks like my 98 XJR nikasil engine may be at an end. I'm potentially in the hunt for a replacement engine. What modifcations need to be made to a 2000 or 2001 xjr engine to run in a 98? Is it better to keep the original supercharger (assuming it's OK), or swap that as well? finally, are there any good resources for finding xj engines? I'm having trouble finding anything under 5K. thanks![sm=boohoo.gif]

i found a guy that will do the modifications on 2001 XJR engine (about 50Kmiles) to make it run with a 98 ( he's done this before) - and ship it to me w/supercharger for $5K. It's a bit steep, but it would be nice to not have to put in another Nikasil engine. I'd settle for a low mileage 98-99 too. Also plan to check with chasman..

12 months, unlimited mileage
Core charge is $500 additional. Freight can get expensive because you are looking at two directions to get the core back. That depends where you are. We just put the customer in touch with the freight company since we don't make any money there.
It's comes with timing cover with all new timing components, includes oil pan can cam covers. Does not have manifolds, waterpump, etc. Sleeved cylinders and rebuilt heads.

Right, there are actually four engines from 98 to 03. You have VVT's in the timing cover with one or two oil pressure sensors by the oil filter and VVT's in the valve covers with one or two pressure sensors by the filter. Believe me, it was expensive, but we've learned! The single pressure sensor engine are very rare.

I have very little experience with S/C engines, so I'm interested to learn the differences. As far as swapping a long engine, the only thing I can think of that makes sense is the holes in the front of the structural sump for the oil cooler feed and return hoses. Only S/C has those, the bosses are cast into the N/A sump but not drilled.
The timing cover and cam covers on AJ26/ AJ27 S/C should be the same, as genius says neither has VVT.
The switches Ken is talking about is one of the many key differences on AJ26/ AJ27 N/A: the second switch is an oil temperature switch which must be used in conjunction with the AJ27 V V T's. So the structural sumps are different between these two engines for sure, along with RH head, timing cover, cam covers, and alot more.
Of couse the biggest deal is pistons, the S/C compression ratio is lower.
