Default Engine Swap Daimler 1999 308

Hello! This is my first post at this forum.

I just recently purchased this Jaguar xj8 Diamler 1999 with the only fault being that the engine got overheated and the Jag didn't want to start afterwards. So could anyone help me out, the engine with the nr 1 is the orignal that came with the car with 4x vvt sensors and the engine 2 i have doesn't have the vvt in it. Is it possible to swap vvt over from engine 1 to the new engine 2?? Or should I just get the original engine rebuilt? It turns.

Im from Saudiarabia and am struggling to source a replacement engine aj27, I even tried Dubai but no luck, and it was pretty expensive over there with the shipping.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums Awais Javed,

Trying to replace the original engine with a later design of Jaguar V8 usually causes big problems matching the electronics. I would always go for the lowest cost option of find a similar specification used engine from a breaker but that would be a lot easier for me here in the UK than it will be for you in Saudi Arabia.

Rebuilding a Jaguar V8 is very expensive just for the necessary parts and then labour will add a lot to this if you cannot do the rebuild yourself. The usual consequence of overheating is warped cylinder heads and these usually have to be replaced.

The VVT and non-VVT heads are same except that the non-VVT head will have the hole for oil supply to the VVT plugged with a rivet which you will have to drill out (on both heads and make sure to clean out all swarf) before you can attach the VVT to it.



Second thing is to check whether your non-VVT engine has reluctors at the ends of its camshafts (see pic below) that are same as on your VVT engine. If not, you can knock them out and install the reluctors from the VVT engine.



The third thing are the ignition coils. Your original engine may have 4-wire connectors to the coils and the non-VVT engine may have 2-wire ignition coils. If this is the case, just install the original ignition coils into the non-VVT engine.

The fourth thing I can think of at the moment are the flex-plates (things like flywheels). Compare carefully the two and, if the non-VVT engine has a different flex-plate, use the flex-plate from the original engine.

I think that non VVT engine is a 3.9 from the Lincoln LS. it has a long filler neck and a PMGR starter. i know the swap has been done but it might be difficult
