I recently had a rebuilt tranny installed in my 99 XJ8. I am now getting error codes P0172, P0175 and P1111. The check engine light came on and then restricted??? came on. The restricted ??? went out and I cleared the codes, check engine light off, at the auto parts store from their reader. Before check engine light came on I had noticed that I was going through gas. Mechanic said to drop it off and he would look at it. If I take it to him, it seems to take a while before he will even look at it. This is my only mode of transportation and I am hobbling around in a cast. Wondering if anyone could tell me what I might look at first. Thanks.

 

Forget code 111- It is rhe OBD drive cycle done indicator. The other codes say the engine is running rich. It could be one of a number of engine sensors, high fuel pressure due to a resticted return hose or bad regulator, or even a blocked air intake. since it is on both the left and right banks, I don;t think it is a leaking injector. A little more diagnosis with a scanner could give some idea of where to look- In the mean time, you might try cleaninf the MAF- see archives.

 

Since the trans was just replaced, I would suggest looking at the vacuum hose to the pressure regulator at the rear of the RH bank fuel rail, and at the wiring to the O2 sensors. Easy to cris-cross the O2 connectors or damage the O2 sensor leads. Sounds weird, I know, but I've seen it 3 or 4 times.
