Default Exhaust Options?

If I understand it correctly, my XJR has the following layout:

Name: XJRExhaust.jpg
Views: 267
Size: 28.9 KB

It appears that the 2 main options for a full replacement would be either Borla ($1,200) or Mina Gallery ($750). These two options appear to replace the 5 mufflers, while bolting to the factory cats.

I have a few questions....

1 - Some people replace the front muffler with an X? Who provides this? Is it worth it? Does it improve performance?

2 - Is there any reason to keep all 5 mufflers? Would there be a performance improvement (less air restriction) to only have 4 or 3 mufflers?

3 - Does anyone sell a much cheaper factory type replacement?

4 - What about removing the cats? I know Nameless Performance has a catless downpipe option. My state doesn't have emission requirements and my local track doesn't require cats. Would this cause engine fault codes? Is there a way to prevent these codes?

Thanks!
