Here it is at idle. Please note, what you hear will depend greatly on the speakers through which you listen to it through. My computer has a subwoofer and 2 speakers connected to it, and on this pc, it sounds accurate if I really turn it up. Your experience will vary greatly depending on what you listen to it on. And note, from within the car, this is 100% inaudible.

I hope this helps someone. Im still thinking of changing the resonators with the Magnaflows like I have on my Miata. A pair of those will fit perfectly in the spot currently occupied by the stock resonators. My worry is it then may be too loud, boomy and perhaps would drone. Right now its none of those things, but from inside the car you just dont hear what you do hear from behind the car.

As my 3.2l sounds like any 4 cylinder car on the road, I wanted to do something too...

Would simply replacing the connecting resonator (between both bank behins the cats) with 2 pipes help? Would it be a tad louder? Would it run more "US-V8-like"?

That isnt just a connecting resonator, its an H pipe muffler. Im 90% sure if you just replaced that with an X pipe, youll notice just about no difference whatsoever. I deleted all 3 mufflers, installed a stainless steel X pipe right after the cats, then straight tubes all the way back. With all I did, the change is barely perceptible from within the car. Keeping 2 of the 3 mufflers will likely be an exercise in futility. I dont imagine youd hear it nor get any real performance gains. Id suggest to either do it all or not do it. If you just replace the middle muffler with straight pipes, the car wont run as efficiently, will likely increase NVH, but not net you any real sound or performance gains. In fact, Im fairly comfortable in saying it would decrease in power. I originally ran straight pipes all the way back but it was immediately obvious I needed an X pipe at the beginning of those pipes.

Hope that helps

Okay, so X-pipe is needed... Hmm... Well then I'll be saving for some new exhaust parts then

Regarding power gains: that isn't really my goal... The car has enough for me (coming from 145 to 211 to now 237 is enough - for more I've got my XJ-S V12).

I sourced a really high quality, stainless steel X pipe from Amazon for peanuts. I can understand that youre not looking for power gains, but certainly you would prefer a gain to a net loss? I was looking for more power and sound, and believe Ive achieved that. When I just ran straight pipes from the cats all the way back, without any X or H pipe, I immediately noticed a loss of power, so yes, an X or H pipe is very important

Hopefully this helps. On an XJR, due to the supercharger, the gains are even greater, but still the basic concept applies X-Pipe vs. H-Pipe, What is Better for Your Exhaust System?

The V12 in my XJ-S has two seperate systems... So it must be a V8 thing... Being my first Jag V8 it is a tad new for me

Your XJ-S (beautiful car btw) is a true dual from the cats all the way back?

No cats even, and thats stock? If that is the case (Id love to see a pic as that is very unusual) than an X pipe will do you a lot of good on that car IMO

It is a RHD UK import (I'm in Germany and drove it home myself). It doesn't even have lambda sonds It is the 295 hp model... An X pipe is possible but that would mean it would lose some ground clearance as there isn't much space...

Check her out when you stand on her a bit. And believe it or not, that still is barely audible inside the car! Must be heard loud and on good speakers to hear it properly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZdK...ature=youtu.be.

What do you mean by lambda sonds? And why would you lose ground clearance? The X pipe would go right in place of 2 sections of pipe you cut out, and be the same diameter as the stock pipes, that has nothing to do with ground clearance at all

i watched both your videos. It actually sounds like a snarling big cat to me! Your license plate looks like we are in the same state. Any chance you’d do an install? Haha
At the very least....can you tell me specs on your custom built exhaust? Thanks
