Failure to Start Engine

For sometime now, my 1998 Jaguar XJ8 has been acting up. After about 3-4 days of not driving the car, when you turn the ignition on, it is almost impossible to start it because it appears the battery has run down. The car is usually started with a jump cable. I bought a brand new 90amps battery a couple of weeks ago and it all seemed fine until a few days ago when the car failed to start. On the first day, I tapped the battery heads with a spanner and the car was able to start. Now the battery appears to have gone dead. It did not even respond to a jump cable. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

As you have fitted a new battery and it will not jump start, check the cable connections:
1. negative ground (circled in red)
2. positive junction box (arrowed in red)

The positive connection is a known issue for loosening or the cable terminal deteriorating.
